Learn how to Download Free E-Books through the Library!
- Do you own an e-reader but not know how to use it?
- Would you like a demonstration on how to use Listen Up! Vermont?
We are here to help! You can reserve a tutoring session with a librarian to learn how to download free e-books from the Library.
Bring your own device or see a demonstration. Files are offered in several formats that work for many devices. The South Burlington Community Library has a NOOK and a Kindle available for checkout. Each device has a variety of preloaded titles so that you can see what reading a book on an e-reader is like. You can read our preselected titles, or you may request to have up to 3 additional titles borrowed through your Listen Up! Vermont account. To make an appointment for a one-hour session, please contact Barbara Ziemann, Public Service Librarian, at 652-7080. You may also email Barbara at bziemann@sbschools.net. Please bring your South Burlington Community Library card with you to your appointment.

PLEASE NOTE: The Children's Room at the Library will be closed for refurbishment on Thursdays during the month of May. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve and enhance our Library spaces.
Renew Books From Home: You may renew your checked-out items through this website. First, select the Catalog Tab above and then the Create Account button on upper right hand corner of the screen. You will need to enter your full barcode located on the back of your South Burlington Community Library card as well as your last name. Select Next button and fill in fields as requested. If you already have a log-in, select Log In button as before. You may change your password by choosing Forgot your password? button under Log in to Destiny tab.
Passes: Passes for one-day check out are available through the Library for several area venues. The Library currently has family passes for Shelburne Farms, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, Vermont State Historic Sites, The Birds of Vermont Museum in Huntington and Vermont's History Museum in Montpelier. The Library also has a pass for the Echo Leahy Center for Lake Champlain. The Echo pass provides reduced admission prices for up to two adults and three youths. Please check individual websites for schedule for each venue.
The Vermont State Department of Libraries and the Department of Forests, Parks, & Recreation have co-sponsored the donation of a free State Parks Day Pass to every library in Vermont. The library pass admits one vehicle holding up to eight people to a Vermont State Park Day Area for one day.
These one-day passes may be used by South Burlington residents who have a South Burlington Community library card. Call the Library at 652-7080 to reserve a pass for a specific date. The pass may be picked up at the Circulation Desk in the morning and must be returned at the end of the day so that others may enjoy the use of the pass. Please check websites or call venue for information on opening & closing dates & times.
Book Groups, Take Note: It’s new and improved!…When you select a title from the Library’s list of book sets available on loan to your reading club, you now can directly link to an online study guide or background information about the book. First, click on the “Book Tips” tab above, next click on the “Multiple Copies List”. The thought provoking links we’ve provided for each title are from reputable sources, such as the publishers or authors. These may help you to prepare for, or to participate in, your own book conversations. And don’t forget to ask for an extended loan period when you borrow a set of books for your group from the Library’s list of over 50 titles.
New Options For Book Discussion Participants: Have you been missing out on participating in the Library’s book discussion programs because a Large Print edition of the selected title has not been published? Did you know that you can enlarge the print on an electronic book in order to better view it? The Library now has a variety of reading options for you to try. You may borrow an easy to use CD player with an audio book on compact disc (for a few of the book discussion program titles), or borrow an electronic book reading device with most of the book discussion titles already on it. Also, the “Listen Up Vermont” database is available for downloading audio or e-books to your own reading devices (computer, tablet or smart phone). The catalog of choices on “Listen Up Vermont” includes several of our book discussion titles, along with many more titles. Contact Barb Ziemann, Public Services Librarian, to inquire about how to make any of these options work for you…and we hope to see you soon at one of the Library’s book discussion meetings!
Homebound Residents: Do you know a reader who needs books delivered? South Burlington homebound residents who do not own a car, who cannot drive or who are disabled may request monthly delivery of books on loan. Please call the Library at 652-7080.
