The Library is able to accept donations of:
- Adult hardcover books published in the past two years
- Children’s books
- Adult paperbacks in good condition
- Audiobook CD’s
- DVDs
The official policy as stated in the South Burlington Community
Library Policy is as follows:
"The standards of selection that govern purchases also apply to gifts.
Gifts will be accepted on the condition that the Library Director may
select those items needed for the collection and dispose of unwanted
items when necessary. Receipts may be given to acknowledge gifts, but
the library staff may not set a value on the donation. Donors should
itemize the materials if they wish to have a detailed record. Primary
source documents and archival materials are not commonly accepted and
should be donated to a larger research library with archival storage
capacity. Donor plates for new books may be used for special
recognition or as memorials, but are not routinely added to gifts.
Once donated to the library, items become the property of the SBCL,
and may be given to other libraries and non-profit agencies
(including the Friends of the Library), sold, traded, or discarded
if not used in the collection. Donated items will not be returned
to the donor and the library will not accept any item that is not
an outright gift."

Your Library will gratefully accept gifts given in memory of a special
honoree or a loved one. It is a privilege to receive the heartfelt
appreciation of a Library patron or their friends and family, as
recognition that our services have enhanced the quality of a beloved
community member's life.
Your Memorial may be a presentation of general or restricted funds, a
specific item listed on the Library's Capital Needs list, books
pre-approved by the Library Director for addition to the Community
Library collection (with a Memorial plate or Donor plate to be
placed inside, if requested), or monetary donations to the Friends
of the Library organization. Memorials will be acknowledged by
correspondence from the Library Director or the President of the
Friends organization, and will be noted in the Community Library's
regular column in the South Burlington newspaper, with the consent
of the donor. Any request for anonymity of gifts will be strictly
respected. |

CHILDREN’S ROOM
DUPLO BLOCKS
EQUIPMENT: A smartboard and projector would allow us to create dynamic and low cost programs. A smartboard would make it possible to visit with authors and illustrators through Skype, enhance story times and traditional programs by providing video clips, slides, and an interactive surface for drawing, writing and games. For more information about smartboards go to www.smartboards.com/.
PUPPETS: For story hours.

Would you like to make a difference in your community? The South
Burlington Community Library welcomes volunteers. We rely on our
volunteers' generous help and support. We appreciate the consistent
time commitment our volunteers are willing to make which is so
important for the smooth operation of our Library. We value their
many contributions which include such tasks as processing
books; delivering library books to homebound community
members; reading to children; shelving books; picking up
returned books at Hannaford; knitting instruction; and
assisting staff in various projects.
If you are willing to join with other community members of South
Burlington in making your Library a better place, please call Barbara Ziemann at 652-7080 or ask for a Volunteer
Sign-up Form at the Library's Circulation Desk. |
